The Arizona Rural Health Association, Inc. (AzRHA) was established in 1994 as an independent, organization after serving as the Advisory Committee of the University of Arizona Rural Health Office (RHO) for many years. The Association has been established as a not-for-profit corporation. While AzRHA continues to serve as the RHO advisory body, its functions have been expanded to cover many other areas involving advocacy for rural health care programs.
The first Board of Directors was selected at the 1995 Annual Arizona Rural Health Conference, drawing upon continuing members of the RHO Advisory Committee. Since the 1996 Annual Rural Health Conference, the Board has met regularly every two months.
Each year, the AzRHA, Inc. holds its annual meeting at the Arizona Rural Health Conference, which is cosponsored by the Association and the University of Arizona Rural Health Office. Attendance at the annual Rural Health Conference includes membership in the AzRHA, Inc. Members are elected to the Board of Directors at the conference. An Issues Forum at the Rural Health Conference allows all conference participants to attend and vote on issues that they would like the Association to work on in the coming year.
Arizona’s rural communities are vital to the future of our state. The AzRHA, Inc. will continue to provide guidance to future legislation that is critical to rural health in Arizona. Please join us as we explore the pathways to even greater success.
