The Arizona Rural Health Association Announces Its First AzRHA Scholar
 
The Arizona Rural Health Association has awarded a scholarship to Hannah Carlson, MPH student at The University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health to support her efforts to impact collaboration among health and social services agencies in Santa Cruz County.

Hannah Carlson's Biography
Hannah Carlson is a second year Master's of Public Health (MPH) student at the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health. Her emphasis is in Health Behavior Health Promotion. She is a Peace Corps Fellow, Canyon Ranch Institute Fellow, Nichol's Initiative Scholar, and now a Arizona Rural Health Association Scholarship recipient.
 
Originally from Fort Collins, Colorado, her undergraduate degree is in Spanish from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Before coming to the University of Arizona, Hannah served in the Peace Corps as an English teacher and youth development worker in Azerbaijan. As a Peace Corps Fellow with the Graduate College, she works at the University of Arizona (UA) Cooperative Extension in Santa Cruz County, focusing on health advocacy and nutrition education activities.

Hannah's MPH internship at the UA Cooperative Extension centers on coalition building and health advocacy. She is working to design and facilitate planning workshops to cultivate collaboration between agencies in Santa Cruz County. The result of these workshops will integrate health and education professionals' expertise with a focus on increasing community capacity and opportunity to advocate for regional health issues.
 
After graduation, Hannah hopes to continue her work in rural communities integrating health advocacy, literacy, and cultural competence at both local and global levels. She hopes to reside in the Arizona and the West. She would like to extend her sincere appreciation to the Arizona Rural Health Association for its support and is honored to be a part of the Arizona rural health community
